ANTHRAX - Cursum Perficio

Ganze zehn Jahre haben sich die New York Thrasher, Anthrax, Zeit gelassen bis nun endlich der Nachfolger ihres letzten Studioalbums, For all Kings, in die Läden und somit auch in die heimischen Wohnzimmer einzug halten durfte. Cursum Perficio ist dann aber auch ein Album, auf das sich das Warten gelohnt hat. Anthrax packen alles aus, wofür sie berühmt und berüchtigt sind, und präsentieren sich in bester Verfassung und Manie. Urtypischer Thrash ala Anthrax trifft auf melodische und songorientierte Momente. Erneut beweisen die fünf Herren ihr Können und zeigen noch einmal besonders eindrucksvoll, warum sie sich seit Jahren an der Spitze der Thrashmetal Szene befinden. Man klingt frisch als hätte man die letzten zehn Jahre spurlos an einem vorüber gehen lassen, und transportiert zeitgleich den Spirit einer Band, die ihre Anfänge bereits 1981 feierte, in das hier und jetzt. So klingt, Cursum Perficio, zwar moderner, und dennoch zu einhundert Prozent nach Anthrax. Von Älterwerden, und gar einem Ende scheint die Band also noch weit entfernt, was auch gut so ist. Anthrax blieben nie stehen und gingen stets mit der Zeit. Sie verstanden es sich anzupassen und genau dies ist ihre Stärke, die sie mit ihrem neuen Album und den insgesamt elf neuen Songs noch einmal klarstellen. Cursum Perficio ist somit nicht nur ein Album für alteingesessene Fans, sondern auch für solche, die erst noch zu echten Fans der Band werden wollen. Von uns aus, darf es gern so weiter gehen, aber bitte nicht mit einer weiteren Wartezeit von zehn Jahren.

New York thrashers Anthrax took a full ten years before the follow-up to their last studio album, *For All Kings*, finally hit the shelves—and made its way into living rooms everywhere. However, *Cursum Perficio* is an album that was well worth the wait. Anthrax pull out all the stops—showcasing everything they are famous and notorious for—and appear in peak form and high-energy mode. Quintessential Anthrax-style thrash meets melodic, song-oriented moments. Once again, the five-piece demonstrates its prowess, impressively reaffirming why they have remained at the forefront of the thrash metal scene for years. They sound fresh—as if the last decade had passed without leaving a mark—while simultaneously bringing the spirit of a band that started back in 1981 into the here and now. Consequently, *Cursum Perficio* sounds modern, yet remains 100% Anthrax. The band seems far removed from aging or calling it quits—and that is a very good thing. Anthrax have never stood still; they have always moved with the times. They know how to adapt, and that very ability is their strength—a fact they clearly demonstrate once more with this new album and its eleven new tracks. *Cursum Perficio* is thus an album not only for long-time devotees but also for those yet to become true fans. As far as we’re concerned, things can keep going just like this—though hopefully without another ten-year wait.
