Noch bevor ein gewisser Herr, namens Kirk Hammett mit Metallica zum Ruhm aufstieg, gründete er 1979 die Bay Area Thrash Formation, Exodus, die er aus bekannten Gründen aber 1983 verließ um dann eben auf anderem Weg sein glück zu machen. Und nu stehen wir hier, gut vierzig Jahre später, insgesamt elf Studioalben erfahrener und um so maches live erlebtes Konzert oder Festivalerlebnis reicher und dürfen das neue Studiowerk der Thrash-Legende begutachten. Goliath, so der Name des neuen Werkes, steht seit Freitag zum Verkauf in den Regalen. Und Exodus wollen es noch einmal richtig wissen. Nicht nur präsentieren sie sich in Höchstform, sondern bringen auch gleich alte Bekannte wieder mit ins Boot. Die Rede ist vom Ex- jetzt wieder aktuellem Frontman und Shouter, Rob Dukes. Selbiger ist nämlich nach einer elfjährigen Abwesenheit nun wieder dabei und beweist zusammn mit der Band, das sowohl er als auch Exodus selbst nicht ohne Grund an der Spitze des Thrash Genres stehen. Aber Exodus haben auf dem neuen Album nicht nur zehn urtypische Kracher mit im Gepäck, sonder präsentieren mit, Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain) und der Violinistin Katie Jacoby, zwei echte Hochkatäter als Gastmusiker dabei. Die zehn neuen Songs orientieren sich schön am bisherigen Schaffen der band und treiben dem werten Hörer den Schweiß auf die Stirn und wer weiß noch wo hin. Hier wird gemosht, gethrasht und dann und wann mächtig gegroovt was das zeug hält. So bleibt kein Genick verschont, es fliegen die Haare und Luftgitarren. Wer das neue album in den eigenen vier Wänden genießen will, sollte aus Sicherheitsgründen besser alles zerbrechliche und sperrige Möbel am besten sehr weit bei Seite stellen. Geübte Thrash Fans wissen wie es gemeint ist. Wer es dann lieber Live erleben möchte und sich richtig austoben mag, der bekommt auf der gerade begonnenen tour dazu die Möglichkeit. Wir für unseren teil freuen uns darüber das auf „Institutionen“ wie Exodus auch nach vier Jahrzehnten Verlass ist und wünschen fröhliches Headbangen bei einem Album, welches von uns die volle Punktzahl und Kausempfehlung erhält.

Even before a certain Kirk Hammett rose to fame with Metallica, he founded the Bay Area thrash metal band Exodus in 1979, which he left in 1983 for well-known reasons, seeking his fortune elsewhere. And now here we are, some forty years later, eleven studio albums under our belt and countless live concerts and festival experiences richer, ready to examine the new studio album from the thrash legends. Goliath, as the new album is called, has been on sale since Friday. And Exodus are ready to make a real impact. Not only are they in top form, but they've also brought some familiar faces back into the fold. We're talking about the former, now current, frontman and vocalist, Rob Dukes. After an eleven-year absence, he's back and, together with the band, proves that both he and Exodus themselves are at the forefront of the thrash genre for good reason. But Exodus haven't just packed ten classic bangers on their new album; they've also presented two true heavyweights as guest musicians: Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain) and violinist Katie Jacoby. The ten new songs are well-integrated with the band's previous work and will have listeners sweating profusely, and who knows where else. Expect moshing, thrashing, and the occasional powerful groove. No neck will be spared, hair will be flying, and air guitars will be flying. Anyone planning to enjoy the new album at home should, for safety reasons, move all fragile and bulky furniture far, far away. Experienced thrash fans know what that means. Those who prefer to experience it live and really let loose will have the opportunity on the tour that has just begun. For our part, we are delighted that "institutions" like Exodus can still be relied upon after four decades and wish you happy headbanging to an album that receives our full score and purchase recommendation.
