WOLFSKULL – Midnight Masters

Wolfskull, gegründet 2018 konnten bereits in ihrer kurzen Bestehens Zeit so manche Aufmerksamkeit erregen. Sei es mit RockHard, wo das Debüt, der Hexum EP, zum Tipp des Monats gekürt wurde oder auch mit dem Titel, Helden von Morgen, den ihnen der Metal Hammer verlieh. Das folgende erste Studioalbum, Ave Goddess verschaffte der Band dann gar noch den Titel, Album des Monats, wiederum im Metal Hammer sowie im Guitar Magazin. Es folgte ein Support im Vorprogram von Skid Row sowie ein Auftritt beim WDR Rockpalast anlässlich des Crossroads Festivals. Das kann sich doch schon mal sehen lassen, oder nicht.
Nun wie auch immer, es ist Zeit für das nächste Album, und selbiges steht nun seit Freitag dem 25.7.2025 in den Verkaufsregalen und wartet mit zehn neuen Songs auf, die den werten Fan sicher abermals überzeugen und bestens unterhalten können.
Wie auch bei den Vorgängern stehen dem melodischen Rock, Songs mit Geschichten über starke weibliche Helden, Outsiders, Gangs, nächtliche Abenteuer, Wüsten gegenüber. So schafft es auch das zweite Album über die gesamte Länge zu unterhalten. Rhythmisch mit vorantreibenden Beats kann das Werk musikalisch und instrumental auf alle Fälle schon mal überzeugen. Der Gesang von Pete 9 ist dann wohl der einzige kleine Aufhänger. Hier fehlt mir persönlich etwas mehr Elan, den der gute Mann ganz sicher irgendwo tief in sich verbirgt. Also werter Herr, trau dich ruhig, man spürt förmlich da ist noch so viel mehr. Und mit der Verstärkung in Form einer zweiten Gitarre hat man bereits einen sehr großen Schritt Vorwärts unternommen so das man hier gespannt auf alles weitere seien darf. Vorerst gibt es von uns 9,5 Punkte von möglichen 10. Weiter so.

Wolfskull, founded in 2018, has already attracted quite a bit of attention in its short existence. Whether it was RockHard, where their debut, the Hexum EP, was named Tip of the Month, or Metal Hammer, which awarded them the title Heroes of Tomorrow. The following first studio album, Ave Goddess, even earned the band the title of Album of the Month, again in Metal Hammer and Guitar Magazine. This was followed by a support slot for Skid Row and an appearance at WDR Rockpalast on the occasion of the Crossroads Festival. That's pretty impressive, isn't it?
Anyway, it's time for the next album, which has been on the shelves since Friday, July 25, 2025, and features ten new songs that are sure to impress and entertain fans once again.
As with its predecessors, melodic rock is juxtaposed with songs about strong female heroes, outsiders, gangs, nocturnal adventures, and deserts. Thus, the second album manages to entertain throughout its entire length. Rhythmically, with driving beats, the work is certainly convincing musically and instrumentally. Pete 9's vocals are probably the only minor drawback. Personally, I feel that they lack a little more verve, which I'm sure the good man has hidden somewhere deep inside him. So, dear sir, take heart, you can feel that there is so much more there. And with the addition of a second guitar, a huge step forward has already been taken, so we can look forward to everything else with excitement. For now, we give it 9.5 points out of a possible 10. Keep up the good work.
So if you're into good classic melodic rock metal, you'll definitely get your money's worth here. After such a turbulent band history and over the years, it goes without saying that these gentlemen know their craft. Let's hope that success finally takes off and this really interesting formation finally gets its rightful place in the scene.
