Was 2020 eigentlich als reines Charité Project geplant war, entwickelte sehr schnell ein Eigenleben, welches sich verdammt stark nach einem „Eigenleben“ sehnte.
Bereits beim Lesen der Bandmitglieder sollte einem jeden Metal Fan Buchstäblich das Wasser im Mund zusammenlaufen. Namen, wie Udo Dirkschneider, Peter Baltes, Stefan Kaufmann, allesamt Ex Accept und im Fall von Herrn Kaufmann dann auch noch U.D.O. treffen hier zusammen mit Mathias Dieth, seines Zeichen Mitglied bei Sinner und U.D.O., Sven Dirkschneider, dem trommelnden Sohn des Udo Dirkschneider und der bezaubernden Sängerin Manuela Bibert.
Wie bereits am Anfang erwähnt handelte es sich bei diesem bunt gemischten Haufen von alten „Legionären“ und jungen Musikern um ein Projekt, welches eigens gedacht war aus einer Idee zur Unterstützung und Hilfe in Not geratener Künstler und ihre Familie zu unterstützen, die durch die Maßnahmen in der Corona Zeit hart getroffen worden waren. Irgendwie blieb es aber nicht bei einer Single. Man hatte Blut geleckt und gemerkt das man nach Jahren des Alleingangs doch noch einiges zusammen auf die Beine stellen konnte.
Und hier ist es nun also, das Debüt von Dirkschneider and the Old Gang, kurz Datog genannt. Babylon, so der Name des Albums ist aber nun nicht etwa wie alle vermuten werden eine Auffrischung der originalen Accept gemischt mit U.D.O. Ganz im Gegenteil. Das Album hat zwar hier und da ganz klare Züge der genannten Bands, brilliert aber auch durch klassische Rocknummern und gar Balladen. So startet das Album mit einer klassischen Accept/U.D.O./Sinner Nummer mit Namen, It Takes Two To Tango, einen modernen und dennoch klassischen Metal Song der sofort ins Ohr geht. Babylon folgt als moderne Metal Ballade die getragen wird durch einen dreistimmigen Gesang und einem verdammt großartigen Gitarren Solo. Es folgen zwei herrliche Rocker die richtig viel Spaß machen, bevor mit Strangers in Paradise eine herzzerreißende Ballade ihren Lauf durch den Gehörgang direkt ins Herz findet. Es geht modern Rockig weiter.
Metal Sons, eine meiner Lieblinge auf dem Album weckt die alten Knochen und lädt zum Headbangen. Selbiges gilt für Propaganda.
Mit Blindfold beweisen Datog dann noch einmal sehr aussagekräftig ihre unglaubliche Klasse, sowohl Instrumental als auch am Gesang. Eine Wahnsinns Ballade.
Das Ende bestreiten zwei weitere sowas von Accept / U.D.O. urtypischen Nummern, die aber durch ihre nun vorherrschenden technischen Möglichkeiten mega erfrischend klingen.
Alles in allem ist Babylon also kein Clown zweier Bands sondern steht völlig für sich. Ein Album welches so viele Facetten beinhaltet. Hier kommt Metal, Rock und Gefühl voll auf seine Kosten. Ein Muss für alle Fans der Gitarren, Bass, Drums und Gesanges-Fraktion. Von uns erhält Babylon die volle Punktzahl und größte Anerkennung sowie Kaufempfehlung.

What was originally planned as a pure charity project in 2020 very quickly developed a life of its own, which craved a damn strong “life of its own.”
Just reading the band members' names should literally make every metal fan's mouth water. Names such as Udo Dirkschneider, Peter Baltes, Stefan Kaufmann, all formerly of Accept, and in the case of Mr. Kaufmann, also U.D.O., come together here with Mathias Dieth, member of Sinner and U.D.O., Sven Dirkschneider, the drumming son of Udo Dirkschneider, and the enchanting singer Manuela Bibert.
As mentioned at the beginning, this colorful mix of old “legionnaires” and young musicians was a project specifically designed to support and help artists and their families in need who had been hit hard by the measures taken during the Corona period. Somehow, however, it didn't stop at a single. They had gotten a taste for it and realized that after years of going it alone, they could still achieve something together.
And so here it is, the debut of Dirkschneider and the Old Gang, or Datog for short. Babylon, the name of the album, is not, as everyone might assume, a rehash of the original Accept mixed with U.D.O. Quite the contrary. The album does have clear influences from the aforementioned bands here and there, but it also shines with classic rock numbers and even ballads. The album starts with a classic Accept/U.D.O./Sinner number called It Takes Two To Tango, a modern yet classic metal song that immediately sticks in your head. Babylon follows as a modern metal ballad carried by three-part vocals and a damn great guitar solo. This is followed by two wonderful rockers that are really fun, before Strangers in Paradise, a heartbreaking ballad, finds its way through the ear canal straight to the heart. It continues in a modern rock vein.
Metal Sons, one of my favorites on the album, wakes up the old bones and invites you to headbang. The same goes for Propaganda.
With Blindfold, Datog once again prove their incredible class, both instrumentally and vocally. An amazing ballad.
The end is marked by two more songs that are typical of Accept / U.D.O., but which sound mega refreshing thanks to their now predominant technical possibilities.
All in all, Babylon is not a clown of two bands, but stands completely on its own. An album that contains so many facets. Metal, rock, and emotion all come into their own here. A must for all fans of guitars, bass, drums, and vocals. We give Babylon full marks and the highest praise, as well as a recommendation to buy.
