Bereits seit den frühen 80’er Jahren, genau genommen seit dem Gründungsjahr 1982, begeistern die Niederländer, Martyr, Fans und Kritiker weltweit mit ihrem treibenden Powermetal.
Hierbei ist die Band nicht zu verwechseln mit der gut zehn Jahre später unter gleichem Namen gegründeten kanadischen Progressive Death Metal Band.
Die Welt wurde erstmals 1985 auf sie aufmerksam, als ihr Track „En Masse (Stand Or Die)” auf der legendären Compilation „Metal Massacre VI” von Metal Blade neben Acts wie Possessed, Dark Angel und Nasty Savage erschien. Noch im selben Jahr erschien ihr Debütalbum, Fort he Universe“, welches sofort für seine herausragenden Songs offiziell gelobt wurde.
Über die Jahre hinweg begeisterte die Band ihre Fans und Anhänger auf insgesamt sieben Studioalben, von denen eines eine Live Produktion darstellt, welche im Jahr 2019 unter dem Namen, Live in Japan, die große Klasse der Band auf den Bühnen der Welt, wo man sich ebenfalls zuhause fühlt und durch unzählige Auftritte glänzen kann, beweist. So spielte man bereits mit Größen wie unter anderem, Trivium, Iced Earth, Saxon, Raven und Flotsam & Jetsam sowie den ehemaligen Iron Maiden-Sängern Paul Di'Anno und Blaze Bayley.
Nach einigen LineUp-Wechseln, präsentiert die Band sich seit ihrem 2022 „Planet Metalhead“ Album, welches auf Grund der hohen Resonanz und Belobigungen dazu führte das Metalfan.nl das Werk zum „Album des Jahres“ gekürte und es zu einer Partnerschaft mit Rock Of Angels Records für die weltweite Wiederveröffentlichung im Jahr 2023 kam.
Nun im Jahr 2025 präsentiert Martyr ihr neues Studiowerk.
„Dark Believer“ präsentiert neben den neun brandneuen Powersongs eine Band in bester Stimmung und Manie. Treibende Riffs, harte Klänge und eingängige Melodien prägen das neue Werk und sorgen so dafür, dass man seinem Namen und der damit einhergehenden Huldigungen rund um diese Band gerecht wird. Fans werden das Werk lieben. Und wer die Formation noch nicht kennt, sollte einen Hörtest auf jeden Fall wagen.

Since the early 1980s, or more precisely since their founding in 1982, Dutch band Martyr has been thrilling fans and critics worldwide with their driving power metal.
The band should not be confused with the Canadian progressive death metal band of the same name, which was founded a good ten years later.
The world first took notice of them in 1985 when their track “En Masse (Stand Or Die)” appeared on Metal Blade's legendary compilation “Metal Massacre VI” alongside acts such as Possessed, Dark Angel, and Nasty Savage. Their debut album, “For the Universe,” was released in the same year and was immediately praised for its outstanding songs.
Over the years, the band has thrilled their fans and followers with a total of seven studio albums, one of which is a live production released in 2019 under the name Live in Japan, proving the band's great class on the stages of the world, where they also feel at home and can shine through countless performances. They have played with greats such as Trivium, Iced Earth, Saxon, Raven, and Flotsam & Jetsam, as well as former Iron Maiden singers Paul Di'Anno and Blaze Bayley.
After several lineup changes, the band has been presenting itself since their 2022 album “Planet Metalhead,” which, due to the high response and praise, led Metalfan.nl to name it “Album of the Year” and resulted in a partnership with Rock Of Angels Records for its worldwide re-release in 2023.
Now, in 2025, Martyr presents its new studio album.
“Dark Believer” features nine brand-new power songs and showcases a band in top form and full of energy. Driving riffs, heavy sounds, and catchy melodies characterize the new album, ensuring that it lives up to the band's name and the accolades that come with it. Fans will love this album. And those who are not yet familiar with the band should definitely give it a listen.
