Ich möchte diese Rezension mit der Geschichte einer Band beginnen, die 1964 gegründet und offiziell bis heute nicht aufgelöst wurde, doch rein musikalisch bereits 1973 ihr eigentliches Ende fand. Ausgenommen vom kurzen „Zwischenspiel“ im Jahr 1977 war die Band bis heute eigentlich weniger aktiv, zumindest als Band. 2022 dann das beinah unglaubliche, womit wohl niemand mehr gerechnet hatte. 'Live From The Astroturf'! Die original Alice Cooper Group gibt ihren ersten Live Auftritt seit 49 Jahren der Abwesenheit und zelebriert ein für Fans und Freunde der Band ein unglaubliches Spektakel.

Im Jahr 1964 gründete Alice Cooper, damals noch als Vincent Furnier, seine erste Gruppe The Earwigs. Die Band war regional bekannt und spielte Beatles-Songs. Ein Jahr später änderte die Band ihren Namen und wurde zu The Spiders; sie spielte Coverversionen, in erster Linie Rolling-Stones- und Yardbirds-Stücke. Im Jahr 1967 änderte die Band abermals ihren Namen und wurde zu The Nazz. Um Verwechslungen mit der gleichnamigen Gruppe von Todd Rundgren zu vermeiden, erfolgte 1968 die Umbenennung in Alice Cooper in der folgenden Besetzung:
• Alice Cooper: Gesang
• Michael Bruce: Gitarre, Keyboard
• Glen Buxton: Gitarre (gest. 1997)
• Dennis Dunaway: Bass
• Neal Smith: Schlagzeug
Nachdem die Band mit dem Hit I’m Eighteen aus dem Album Love It to Death 1971 einen ersten größeren Erfolg hatte und auch mit dem Nachfolgealbum Killer weiterhin Furore machte, gelang 1972 mit dem Konzeptalbum School’s Out und dem gleichnamigen Top-10-Hit der endgültige Durchbruch. Das Nachfolgealbum Billion Dollar Babies (1973) war noch einmal ungleich erfolgreicher und machte die Alice Cooper Group zu einer der größten und bedeutendsten Rockgruppen ihrer Zeit. Große Hits dieses Albums waren unter anderem Elected und No More Mr. Nice Guy. Nach dem weniger erfolgreichen Album Muscle of Love (1973) folgte im folgenden Jahr die (niemals offiziell erklärte) Auflösung der Band, um allen Mitgliedern Zeit für Soloprojekte zu geben, die alle – bis auf das des Sängers Alice Cooper (unter anderem Welcome to my Nightmare) – niemals veröffentlicht wurden. Die Band fand sich später unter dem Namen Billion Dollar Babies noch einmal für kurze Zeit zusammen. Ihr einziges Album war Battle Axe, welches 1977 erschien.
Heute nun im Jahr 2025, 52 Jahre nach dem eigentlichen „Ende“ der Band, fanden sich die noch lebenden Künstler erneut zusammen um ein weiteres Studioalbum einzuspielen. Was hierbei heraus kam, ist ein wahrer Hochgenuss an klassischen Hard Rock und Heavy Metal. Beim hören jedes einzelnen der insgesamt vierzehn Songs, läßt man einmal die beiden Bonus Tracks, Return Of The Spiders 2025 und Titanic Overunderture, die ausschließlich auf der 7“ Vinyl Single in der Ultimate Collector’s Edition, Nummeriert und limitiert auf 5.000 Exemplare, Box, enthalten sind, merkt man eines sofort, hier sind hochkarätige Profis mit Leib und Seele am Werk. Mit The Revenge of Alice Cooper gelang es den vier Musikern tatsächlich den Spirit der siebziger Jahre einzufangen und mit einer unglaublichen Klasse selbigen frisch wie eh und je in das hier und heute zu transferieren. So klingt nicht einer der Songs etwa „Verstaubt“, sondern ganz im Gegenteil absolut Zeitgemäß und verbreitet sowohl bei Fans und Liebhabern des guten alten Rock ’n Roll, als auch bei Fans des klassischen Hard Rock und Heavy Metal einen mega Hörspaß, der zum Feiern einlädt. Was bereits die ersten drei Single
Auskopplungen erahnen ließen, setzt sich auf dem kompletten Album fort. So bekommt man ein Album, zwischen der Alice Cooper Band und dem ach so bekannten und geliebten Alice Cooper Solo Künstler. Hier bleibt kein Fan auf der Strecke. Hier wird Hard Rock und Heavy Metal in seiner reinsten Form zelebriert. Ein Wahnsinns Album, welches alle Ehrungen die es sicherlich erhalten wird, mehr als verdient hat.

I would like to begin this review with the story of a band that was founded in 1964 and has not officially disbanded to this day, but musically speaking, came to an end in 1973. Except for a brief “interlude” in 1977, the band has been less active to this day, at least as a band. Then, in 2022, something almost unbelievable happened that no one had expected. “Live From The Astroturf”! The original Alice Cooper Group gave its first live performance after 49 years of absence and celebrated an incredible spectacle for fans and friends of the band.

In 1964, Alice Cooper, then still known as Vincent Furnier, founded his first group, The Earwigs. The band was known regionally and played Beatles songs. A year later, the band changed its name to The Spiders and played cover versions, primarily Rolling Stones and Yardbirds songs. In 1967, the band changed its name again and became The Nazz. To avoid confusion with Todd Rundgren's band of the same name, the band was renamed Alice Cooper in 1968 with the following lineup:

After the band had its first major success with the hit I'm Eighteen from the album Love It to Death in 1971 and continued to cause a sensation with the follow-up album Killer, the concept album School's Out and the top 10 hit of the same name marked the band's definitive breakthrough in 1972. The follow-up album Billion Dollar Babies (1973) was even more successful and made the Alice Cooper Group one of the biggest and most important rock groups of their time. Major hits from this album included Elected and No More Mr. Nice Guy. After the less successful album Muscle of Love (1973), the band broke up the following year (never officially announced) to give all members time for solo projects, none of which – except for singer Alice Cooper's (including Welcome to my Nightmare) – were ever released. The band later reunited briefly under the name Billion Dollar Babies. Their only album was Battle Axe, which was released in 1977.
Now, in 2025, 52 years after the band's actual “end,” the surviving artists have reunited to record another studio album. The result is a true delight of classic hard rock and heavy metal. When listening to each of the fourteen songs, not counting the two bonus tracks, Return Of The Spiders 2025 and Titanic Overunderture, which are exclusively included on the 7" vinyl single in the Ultimate Collector's Edition, numbered and limited to 5,000 copies, one thing is immediately apparent: these are top-class professionals at work with heart and soul. With The Revenge of Alice Cooper, the four musicians have actually managed to capture the spirit of the seventies and transfer it to the here and now with incredible class, as fresh as ever. None of the songs sound “dusty,” but rather absolutely contemporary and provide mega listening pleasure for fans and lovers of good old rock ‘n’ roll as well as fans of classic hard rock and heavy metal, inviting them to celebrate. What the first three singles
already hinted at continues throughout the entire album. The result is an album that falls somewhere between the Alice Cooper Band and the oh-so-familiar and beloved Alice Cooper solo artist. No fan will be left behind here. Hard rock and heavy metal are celebrated in their purest form. An incredible album that more than deserves all the accolades it is sure to receive.
We give it full marks and a 100% recommendation to buy, whether on CD, vinyl, stream, or in the box set. Buy it!!!!
