Neben den acht Demos und vier Wiederveröffentlichungen (2), Kompilation (1) und Live Alben (1) veröffentlichte die aus Nordrhein Westfalen stammende Trash-Metal Band, Darkness, die ihre Gründung bereits im Jahr 1984 fand insgesamt fünf Alben. Im Jahr 1991 war zwischenzeitlich Schluss und die Band löste sich auf, um unter dem Namen, Eure Erben im Jahr 2004 wieder zueinanderzufinden. Unter selbigen Namen entstanden in der Zeit von 2006 – 2010 die drei Studioalben, Eure Erben, Eure Fäuste und Terror 2.0. Unter Eure Erben, spielte die Formation hauptsächlich Songs aus der Zeit von Darkness, allerdings mit vornehmlich deutschen Texten. Zwischen 1992 und 2005 erschienen die Alben Broken Heart sowie Blootbath als Wiederveröffentlichungen als auch das Live Album, Bocholt Live Squard. Die Demos der Band erschienen 2008 als Kompilation unter dem Namen, The Demos. Seit 2015 ist man nun auch wieder offiziell unter dem Namen, Darkness aktive und veröffentlicht dieser Tage, genau genommen am 26.4.2024, das nunmehr zehnte Studioalbum mit Namen, Blood of Canvas, welches hier nun beurteilt werden soll.
Lange Vorrede, kurze Rede. Das neue Material von Darkness unterscheidet sich in erster Linie in der Komplexität der einzelnen Nummern. So ist Blood of Canvas wohl das härteste Material, welches die Formation bis Dato veröffentlicht hat. Zwar handelt es sich hierbei um kein Konzept Album, doch reihen sich die Songs dennoch wie ein Puzzle aneinander. An Geschwindigkeit und Härte hat die Formation die sich kurz vor der Einspielung des bereits 2022 fertigen Materials von ihrem Gitarristen trennte, und so das Album nun mehr zu viert einspielte und produzierte, nichts verloren. So bekommt der werte Fan nach wie vor was er von Darkness erwartet. Dies ist reiner Trash Metal, der sich ohne Kompromisse hören lassen kann. So lässt sich nicht verleugnen, das Bands wie u.a. Destructrion seiner Zeit im Jahr 1984 als Vorbild für diese Formation stand und wohl auch noch heute steht.
Für Fans des guten alten Trash Metals somit ein absolutes Muss!

In addition to eight demos and four re-releases (2), compilations (1) and live albums (1), the trash metal band from North Rhine-Westphalia, Darkness, which was founded in 1984, released a total of five albums. The band broke up in 1991 and reunited under the name Eure Erben in 2004. The three studio albums Eure Erben, Eure Fäuste and Terror 2.0 were released under the same name between 2006 and 2010. Under Eure Erben, the band mainly played songs from the Darkness era, albeit with predominantly German lyrics. Between 1992 and 2005, the albums Broken Heart and Blootbath were re-released as well as the live album, Bocholt Live Squard. The band's demos were released in 2008 as a compilation under the name, The Demos. Since 2015, they have been officially active again under the name Darkness and are currently releasing their tenth studio album, Blood of Canvas, on April 26, 2024 to be precise, which will be reviewed here.
Long preamble, short speech. The new material from Darkness differs primarily in the complexity of the individual tracks. Blood of Canvas is probably the heaviest material the band has released to date. Although this is not a concept album, the songs still fit together like a puzzle. The band, who parted ways with their guitarist shortly before recording the finished material in 2022 and thus recorded and produced the album as a foursome, have lost nothing of their speed and heaviness. So the fans still get what they expect from Darkness. This is pure trash metal that can be heard without compromise. It cannot be denied that bands such as Destructrion were a role model for this formation in 1984 and probably still are today.
An absolute must for fans of good old trash metal!
