The Gems ist eine neue Band, die nicht viele kennen werden..... oder vielleicht doch? Bei den Gems handelt es sich nämlich um Guernica Mancini, Mona “DeMona” Lindgren und Emlee Johansson oder für viele eher bekannt als 3/4 der Band Thundermother. Nach dem Ausscheiden von Guernica Mancini bei Thundermother haben Mona und Emlee sich ihr angeschlossen und die Band “The Gems” geformt. Mit Napalm Records haben sie da das perfekte Label für sich gefunden und nun dieses Rock ’n’ Roll Meisterwerk herausgebracht. Ein Album, was von Anfang bis Ende total fetzt, aber keineswegs ein Abklatsch ihrer vorherigen Band ist. Der Erste, der 16 Tracks auf dem Album trägt den Namen “Aurora” eine Nummer, die nur einen Beat hat und die starke Stimme von Guernica Mancini dazu singt. Eine sehr schöne Einleitung für das Album, denn dieser Song geht dann nahtlos in den zweiten Song “Queens” über. Bei “Queens” bekommen wir eine totale Rocknummer um die Ohren geprügelt. Hier weiß man schon, dieses Album wird einfach nur grandios. Hier wird die Stärke der Damen gefeiert und eventuell auch ein wenig auf die Situation angespielt, die sich bei der vorherigen Band zugetragen hat. “Queens Always stick together” Nach dieser Granate geht es aber gleich weiter mit “Send me to the wolves”, die erste Nummer, die von “The Gems” gemeinsam geschrieben wurde. Ein sehr bluesige Hard Rock Nummer auf der Mona auch zeigt, dass sie nicht nur eine gute Bassistin, sondern auch eine fantastische Gitarristin ist. Knackige Riffs und ein geiles Solo im Stil vieler 70er Jahre-Rockbands. Der Song grooved ohne Ende. “Domino” ist nun an der Reihe und was soll man Sagen, Gitarren und Guernicas knackige Stimme leiten hier einen sehr coolen und fetzigen Song ein. Eine absolute Party für die Ohren. Auch hier erkennt man Nuancen vieler 70er und 80er-Bands wie Poison, Kiss usw. Ebenfalls ein geiler Song. Nun geht es mit “Silver Tongue” weiter. Eine weitere, sehr schöne Rocknummer mit einem schönen stampfenden Rhythmus. Ein Song, wo man live dann sehr schön mitgröhlen kann. Nun begeben wir und mit “Undiscovered Paths” auf unerforschte Wege und die Nummer fängt Choral an und geht aber dann in einen ordentlichen aber sehr melodiösen Stampfer über. Hier ist eine Nummer, die im Gegensatz zu ihren Vorreitern nicht ganz so reißt, aber dennoch sehr cool rüberkommt, aber auch etwas seriöser wirkt und nicht so sehr wie eine Party-Hymne. Nun haben wir einen kleinen Interlude mit “Marias Song”. Hier hat man ca. 90 Sekunden die Möglichkeit etwas zur Ruhe zu kommen. Ein klassisches Geigenspiel, welches nichtsdestotrotz sehr schön ist. “Ease your Pain” bringt uns zu einer sehr emotionalen und starken Ballade, wo Guernicas Rock-Röhre zum vollen Einsatz kommt und sie so richtig zeigen kann, was sie drauf hat. Live werden hier viele Feuerzeuge/Handys in der Luft sein und den Saal mit Licht überfluten. Gänsehaut pur bei diesem Song. Doch jetzt wird es Zeit, mit “Running” wieder aufs Gaspedal zu drücken. Eine schnelle Nummer mit einer trockenen “No-Bullshit” Strophe und einem sehr geilen Refrain. Ein kleiner Interlude mit “Rennaissance” folgt jetzt und man hört 37 Sekunden Guernicas starke Stimme mit ein paar Drums und Gitarren. Es kommt nun eines meiner Highlights auf dem Album “Like a Phoenix”. Dies war auch die erste Single, die The Gems im Juni 2023 herausgebracht haben. Schon damals haben sie mit der Nummer gleich gezeigt, wer sie sind und dass Thundermother nur der Zwischenstopp zu etwas Großem war. Die Nummer hat sowohl auf Spotify als auch auf YouTube enorm viele Klicks in kürzester Zeit bekommen. Eine grandiose Nummer, wo einfach alles passt. Gitarre, Melodie, Drive, Stimme, Text....ALLES!!!! Dieser Song wird live einfach so wahnsinnig jeden Raum/Halle in Schutt und Asche legen. “P.S.Y.C.H.O.” knallt einem direkt die Drums um die Ohren und geht in einen so geilen Song über. Auch hier wird man wieder nur Party machen können, anders geht es bei dem Song nicht. Jetzt bei “Kiss it goodbye” kann man sich wirklich vom eigenen Nacken verabschieden. Mitwippen und die Haare zwirbeln lassen ist hier die Devise. Hier haben wir eine Nummer, die sowohl stark und extrem kraftvoll, dennoch auch gefühlvoll rüberkommt. Für mich eines der absoluten Highlights auf dem Album. Ich höre mir diesen Song im Moment sehr oft auf Endlosschleife an. Geile Nummer mit einem geilen Vibe. “Force of Nature” ist wieder eine schnelle, nackenbrechende Nummer, die keine Rücksicht auf Verluste nimmt. Ein Powersong, der zeigt, dass die 3 Gems ganz nach oben gehören. Der vorletzte Song auf dem Album, “Fruits of my Labor” ist wieder etwas ruhiger und melodiöser, mit einem Solo im Intro, welches an die klassischen Soli von Slash erinnert. Ein Tune der einem auch auf jeden Fall eine richtig fette Gänsepelle verpasst. Um das Album abzuschließen haben wir dann nochmal den Song “Like a Phoenix”, aber diesmal als akustische Version. Viele denken bei Akustik Songs immer gleich “ach jetzt wirds ruhig”, aber das ist hier nicht der Fall. Hier zeigen die Ladies, dass sie auch mit Akustikinstrumenten extrem rocken können. Guernica's Stimme kommt hier nochmal richtig ins Spiel und es ist der Wahnsinn, was diese Frau für ein Gesangsorgan besitzt.
Fazit:
Jeder der denkt “The Gems” ist eine Newcomer Band und fangen gerade erst an, der liegt so 100% falsch. Diese Band ist so professionell und talentiert, wie es nur geht und wie man es sich von einer Band diesen Kalibers nur wünschen kann. Emlee Johannson an den Drums ist eine Maschine, die genau weiß wie man die Sticks schwingt. Mona “DeMona” Lindgren beherrscht die Gitarre und den Bass wie eine Göttin und für mich als Gitarrist ein absolutes Highlight auf dem Album, sie in Action zu hören. Über die Stimme von Guernica Mancini brauchen wir nicht zu reden, hier hat man ein ganzes Album, was einen so von den Socken haut. Um zu zeigen, was sie kann. Es gibt wenige Alben, die mich beim ersten Hören schon so umhauen, aber dieses Album ist, Gott sei Dank, so eines und ich bin sehr froh, dass ich die Ehre hatte dieses Album zu rezensieren. Es hat wirklich Spaß gemacht und ich freue mich “The Gems” hoffentlich bald schon live erleben zu dürfen. Ein geiles Album für alle Rock Fans und eine 100%ige Kaufempfehlung meinerseits. Danke an The Gems für dieses Meisterwerk.
The Gems is a new band that won't know many ..... or maybe? The GEMs are Guernica Mancini, Mona “Demona” Lindgren and Emlee Johansson or for many more known than 3/4 of the band Thundermother. After leaving Guernica Mancini near Thundermother, Mona and Emlee joined her and shaped the band “The Gems”. With Napalm Records you have found the perfect label for yourself and now released this rock ’n’ roll masterpiece. An album, which totally hits from start to finish, but is by no means a copy of her previous volume. The first one, the 16 tracks on the album, bears the name “Aurora” a number that only has a beat and sings the strong voice of Guernica Mancini. A very nice introduction to the album, because this song then moves seamlessly into the second song “Queens”. At “Queens” we get a total rock number around the ears. Here you already know that this album is just going to be terrific. Here the strength of the women is celebrated and possibly also alluded to the situation that has happened in the previous volume. “Queens Always Stick Together” After this grenade, it goes on with “Send Me To The Wolves”, the first number that was written by “The Gems”. A very bluesy hard rock number on Mona also shows that she is not only a good bassist, but also a fantastic guitarist. Crunchy riffs and a horny solo in the style of many 70s rock bands. The song grooved without end. “Domino” is now in their turn and what can you say, guitars and Guernica's crisp voice lead a very cool and groovy song here. An absolute party for the ears. Here, too, nuances of many 70s and 80s bands such as Poison, Kiss etc. can also be seen a great song. Now it continues with “Silver Tongue”. Another very nice skirt number with a nice stamping rhythm. A song where you can gray live. Now we and with “Undiscovered Paths” on unexplored paths and the number starts choral and then merges into a decent but very melodic stamper. Here is a number that, in contrast to its pioneers, is not quite as tearing, but still comes across very cool, but also looks a bit more serious and not as much as a party anthem. Now we have a small interlude with “Maria's song”. Here you have about 90 seconds the opportunity to rest come. A classic violin game, which is nevertheless very nice. “Ease Your Pain” takes us to a very emotional and strong ballad, where Guernicas rock tube comes for full effort and she can really show what it has on it. Many lighters/cell phones will be in the air and flood the hall with light. Pure goosebumps with this song. But now it is time to push “running” back to the accelerator pedal. A quick number with a dry “no-bullshit” stanza and a very horny chorus. A small interlude with “Rennaissance” now follows and you can hear Guernica's strong voice with a few drums and guitars for 37 seconds. One of my highlights is now on the album “Like a Phoenix”. This was also the first single that The Gems released in June 2023. Even then, they showed the number who they are and that Thundermother was only the stopover to something big. The Number got an enormous number of clicks on Spotify and YouTube in a very short time. A magnificent number where everything just fits. Guitar, melody, drive, voice, text .... everything !!!! This song will simply put every room/hall in rubble and ashes live. “P.S.Y.C.H.O.” Bangs the drums around your ears and merges into such a horny song. Again, you will only be able to party, the song is not different. Now at “Kiss IT Goodbye” you can really say goodbye to your own neck. Raising and letting the hair twisted here is the motto here. Here we have a number that comes across both strong and extremely powerful, but also soulful. For me one of the absolute highlights on the album. I very often listen to endless loop at the moment. Horny number with a horny vibe. “Force of Nature” is again a fast, neck -breaking number that does not take loss of losses. A power song that shows that the 3 GEMs belong to the top. The penultimate song on the album, “Fruits of My Labor” is again a bit calmer and melodic, with a solo in the intro, which is reminiscent of the classic Slash solos. A tune that definitely misses a really fat goose trow. To complete the album, we have the song “Like a Phoenix” again, but this time as an acoustic version. Many always think of the same way with acoustics songs “oh now it will be quiet”, but that's not the case here. Here the ladies show that they can rock extremely with acoustic instruments. Guernica's voice really comes into play again and it is amazing what this woman has for a vocal organ.
Conclusion:
Anyone who thinks “The Gems” is a newcomer band and is just starting, which is 100% wrong. This band is as professional and talented as it can and how you can wish this caliber from a band. Emlee Johannson on the drums is a machine that knows exactly how to swing the sticks. Mona “Demona” Lindgren dominates the guitar and bass like a goddess and for me as a guitarist an absolute highlight on the album to hear her in action. We don't need to talk about the voice of Guernica Mancini, here you have an entire album, which makes you such a sock. To show what she can. There are few albums that blow me around the first time, but this album is, thank God, one and I am very happy that I had the honor to review this album. It was really fun and hopefully I am happy to be able to experience “The Gems” live soon. A horny album for all rock fans and a 100%purchase recommendation on my part. Thanks to The Gems for this masterpiece.
