The Rods ist eine US-amerikanische Heavy-Metal-Band aus Cortland, New York.
Die Band wurde von David „Rock“ Feinstein, einem Cousin von Ronnie James Dio (u. a. Black Sabbath und Rainbow), gegründet, der vorher als Gitarrist bei der Band Elf aktiv war. 1980 erschien via Primal das Debütalbum Rock Hard, welches in ähnlicher, leicht überarbeiteter Form 1981 als The Rods via Arista Records noch einmal veröffentlicht wurde und mittlerweile als Klassiker des Hardrocks gilt. Nach weiteren drei Alben löste sich die Band Ende der 1980er-Jahre auf.
Im August 2006 fand sich die Band erneut zusammen und begann mit Arbeiten an einem neuen Studioalbum. Dieses wurde bereits vollständig aufgenommen und hätte im Frühling 2009 erscheinen sollen.[1][2] Stattdessen erschien das Album erst 2011 und heißt Vengeance. Als Highlight des Albums singt darauf Feinsteins Cousin Ronnie James Dio den Song The Code.
Das mittlerweile achte Studiolbum, mit Namen „Rattle the Cage“ beinhaltet 10 Tracks, die es in sich haben. Sie rocken komplett im konstant, klassischen Hard Rock Stil. Einige Tracks erinnern definitiv nach wie vor an den Stil des leider viel zu früh verstorbenen, kleine,/großen, Ronnie James Dio. Wen wundert es, bei der „Familiengeschichte“. Auch textlich sind die Songs Nr 8 „Play it loud“, Nr 3 „Cry out loud“ und Nr 1 „Now and Forever“ sehr durch selbigen inspiriert.
Obwohl das komplette Album mit seinen rund 48 Minuten relativ kurz erscheint, wirkt es sehr dynamisch und kraftvoll und macht auch einfach Spaß sich anzuhören. Ob es jetzt mitreißender ist, als die Alben zuvor, muss jeder für sich entscheiden, denn das ist wohl individuelle Geschmackssache. Was aber klar ist: The Rods haben nichts an ihrem Können eingebüßt und zeigen wiedermal, dass sie es nach wie vor draufhaben.
Eine klare Kaufempfehlung meinerseits.
The Rods is an American heavy metal band from Cortland, New York.
The band was founded by David “Rock” Feinstein, a cousin of Ronnie James Dio (including Black Sabbath and Rainbow), who was previously active as a guitarist in the band Elf. In 1980 the debut album Rock Hard was released via Primal, which was re-released in a similar, slightly revised form in 1981 as The Rods via Arista Records and is now considered a classic of hard rock. After another three albums, the band broke up at the end of the 1980s.
In August 2006 the band got back together and began working on a new studio album. This has already been fully recorded and should have been released in spring 2009.[1][2] Instead, the album was only released in 2011 and is called Vengeance. As a highlight of the album, Feinstein's cousin Ronnie James Dio sings the song The Code.
The now eighth studio album, called “Rattle the Cage”, contains 10 tracks that have it all. They rock completely in a constant, classic hard rock style. Some tracks are definitely still reminiscent of the style of the little/big Ronnie James Dio, who unfortunately died much too early. Who is surprised, given the “family history”. The lyrics of the songs No. 8 “Play it loud”, No. 3 “Cry out loud” and No. 1 “Now and Forever” are also very inspired by the same.
Although the entire album seems relatively short at around 48 minutes, it seems very dynamic and powerful and is just fun to listen to. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether it is more thrilling than the previous albums, because that is probably a matter of individual taste. But what is clear: The Rods have lost none of their skills and are showing once again that they still have it.
A clear purchase recommendation from me.
