Bereits 1990 gründete Jutta Weinhold, nachdem die aus Hamburg stammende Sängerin bereits eine sagenhafte Karriere als Sängerin/Darstellerin in mehreren Musicals wie, Hair und 1972 für die Musicals Godspell und Jesus Christ Superstar, in Fernsehsendungen, sowie in der Hamburger Metal Szene, gemacht hatte, die Band Velvet Viper. Sie verzeichnete ebenfalls einen Auftritt als Gastmusikerin zusammen mit Udo Lindenberg und war die Mitgründerin der 1985 gegründeten und sehr erfolgreichen Band Zed Yago. Seit 1990 veröffentlichte sie nun mit ihrer Band Velvet Viper, mehr oder minder erfolgreich, in unterschiedlichen Abständen bisher fünf Alben. Nachdem das letzte Album im Jahre 2021 das Licht der Welt erblickte, präsentiert die Formation nun dieser Tage ihr neustes Werk mit Namen, Nothing Compares To Metal. Was kann man nun über dieses Werk sagen? Es ist ein Metalalbum, welches durchaus seine Existenzberechtigung erlangt. Spieltechnisch kann man es sehr gut im klassischen Hard Rock und Heavy Metal einordnen. So finden sich unter den insgesamt elf Songs, Schnelle, Mittempo und Groovige Nummern, die allesamt für sich allein stehen können und ohne Frage ihre Fans finden, wenn nicht bereits haben werden. Gesanglich denke ich muss man sich an Frau Weinhold in der Metal Szene tatsächlich einlassen. Nicht das diese Frau keine oder gar eine schlechte Gesangstimme hat, ganz im Gegenteil, sie ist verdammt Vielseitig, hat aber ihren eigenen Style. Zusammenfassend kann man sagen, wer Velvet Viper schon vorher mochte, wird das neue Album lieben. Für alle anderen gilt, reinhören und selbst entscheiden. Von uns bekommt das Album allein wegen seiner Vielseitigkeit, Experimentierfreude und dem klaren Metal Sound eine klare Hör/Kaufempfehlung.
As early as 1990, Jutta Weinhold founded the band Velvet Viper, after the Hamburg-born singer had already had a fabulous career as a singer/actress in several musicals such as Hair and in 1972 for the musicals Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar, in television programs and in the Hamburg metal scene. She also recorded an appearance as a guest musician together with Udo Lindenberg and was the co-founder of the very successful band Zed Yago, founded in 1985. Since 1990 she has released five albums at different intervals with her band Velvet Viper, more or less successfully. After the last album saw the light of day in 2021, the formation is now presenting their latest work by name, Nothing Compares To Metal. What can one say about this work? It's a metal album that deserves its right to exist. Technically it can be classified very well in classic hard rock and heavy metal. Among the eleven songs in total there are fast, mid-paced and groovy numbers that can all stand on their own and will undoubtedly find their fans, if they haven't already. Vocally, I think you really have to get involved with Ms. Weinhold in the metal scene. It's not that this woman has no or even a bad singing voice, on the contrary, she's damn versatile, but has her own style. In summary, if you liked Velvet Viper before, you will love the new album. For everyone else, listen and decide for yourself. The album gets a clear listening/purchase recommendation from us simply because of its versatility, willingness to experiment and the clear metal sound.
