ACCEPT/The Iron Maidens
14.02.2023 Berlin Huxleys
Rezension by Schwarze Hexe Streetteam Berlin

On February 14th, 2023 Accept played at Huxleys Neue Welt. They were joined by The Iron Maidens as a support band. The female version of Iron Maiden with singer Kirsten Rosenberg heated up the audience with well-known Maiden songs. The stage show was also based on that of the original. Here, however, the American flag was replaced by a German one after a short time. However, this was not panned any less magnificently. Linda McDonald set the pace properly from the drums. The guitarists and bassist interacted both with each other and with the audience. You could tell everyone was enjoying the gig and having fun on stage. Finally, my personal highlight was “The Number of the Beasts”, which also included the iconic Eddie copy. Unfortunately the sound of the girls wasn't optimal when I was seated in the middle of the stage in the second row. For me, the singing was almost incomprehensible, which was a shame, because Kristin Rosenberg has an incredibly great voice, which came out well in a few places.

After a short changeover, Accept finally started with "Zombie Apocalypse" followed by "Symphonie of Pain". Now the sound was better and the relationship between the vocals and the other instruments was balanced. The already 68-year-old singer Mark Tomilio presents himself powerfully and with a good voice. It then went on to older titles like Restless and Wild and London Leatherboys. Guitarist Wolf Hoffmann presented himself as the leader of the show. He dynamically led the show with poses and interacted with the audience and the other band members. The medley of "Demon's Night", "Startlight", "Loosers and Winners" and "Flash rockin' Man" was very coherent in its transitions and the songs fit together harmoniously. Another highlight was the instrumental "Samson und Delilah", in which the guitarist Wolf Hoffmann was accompanied by a mysterious lady in a black overall with an electric violin. You could almost "see" the sparks and magic between the two. Both harmonize wonderfully with each other and play great together. After that it went on powerfully. Among other things, the band heated up the audience with songs like "The Undertaker" and "Princess of the Dawn" and brought the hall to a boil. At that moment I was glad to have gotten a seat in the second row to be able to hold on to the barrier, because a moshpit had formed behind me that wanted to sweep almost everything away. With "Fast as a Shark" an inflated shark flew into the audience and was then lifted back to the stage by the rows. "Metalheart" and "Teutonic Terror" and "Pandemic" were also played. After the set there was a short break before the band came back on stage for three encores. There was also "Balls to the Wall". Throughout the show the fun and joy of all band members was evident. And neither singer Mark Tomilio nor guitarist Wolf Hoffmann need hide behind their younger band mates. Overall, the band presented themselves as a unit and gave the impression that they had been playing together forever.
