Somehow almost everyone in the scene pays homage to their idols and inspirations and thus pays tribute to them by pressing cover versions into form and music and publishing them as a cover album. So now from Chris Pohl and Blutengel. Lack of ideas? The attempt to “kill” the time with cover versions in the prevailing times or to use it sensibly or even really a way of simply saying thank you. Whatever. In the case of Chris Pohl, lack of ideas definitely fails. Because the Blutengel mastermind may be a lot, but certainly not unimaginative or unimaginative. And what he brings to the start with his cover album, Fourtain of Destiny, can be heard like everything he touches. So the album really starts with the Duran Duran song, Wild Boys, and then culminates in the Forever Young by Alphaville, which I particularly expect. This is followed by Ultavox “Hymn”, wonderfully presented in a typical Blutengel version.
Hearts Alone, Silent Running from Mike and the Mechanics or Dr Mabuse from Propaganda finally reveal the true influences of Chris Pohl and thus also of Blutengel clearly through these cover versions.
The result was a cover album that is audible throughout and never loses its fun factor or listening pleasure. Another highlight I think is the version of the Yozoo classic, “Nobodys Diary”, which Ulrike Goldmann sang, couldn't have been better covered.
Aha, or Erasure, is honored here. All around a cover album with style and a very good taste in classical music. Long live the 80s.
