Oh yes, the beautiful good old 80 'those were still times. Metal bands sprang up like mushrooms and shaped this decade with their hard sounds. Just in this time, a young and aspiring band set out with their debut like so many others directly in the then glam and hairmetal scene. Even though the guys already made their debut with Night Songs quite clear, they rather belonged to the blouse / rock metal drawer. But at the latest with the appearance of the second Silberlings it was made clear where the four gentlemen belonged. So it's not surprising that such well-known artists such as Gene Simmons (Kiss) and Jon Bon Jovi (Bon Jovi) supported the band in their work and were on the program in the pre-program of, among others, Loudness, Poisen or David Lee Roth. With Heartbreakstation you could not stop your third work, if it was not during the headliner tour of the album, that the moment came when mastermind and singer Tom Keifer woke up in the morning and discovered that his figurehead, his voice was gone. No cold or hoarseness, no. Unilateral paralysis of the vocal cords so the diagnosis of the doctors. It was questionable if the exception artist could ever sing again. Should 1990 really be the end of the band into the house in which so many hopes and expectations were set? Tom Keifer did not give up. The result was Still Climbing, which is now the fourth and to date last studio album of the band, which appeared in 1994. Since then, it is very quiet around the quartet from Philadelphia. Although came various live and Best of albums such as the 1997 Once Upon a ... or 2014 Striped but new there was no more. The band has not officially disbanded until today and Mr. Keifer is just starting off with his second solo album, but if you ever rehearse songs in the classical lineup, you will go unanswered.
With The Mercury Years comes a box set, which combines the 4 studio albums plus some B pages and some unpublished live tracks on five CDs in a pretty cardboard slipcase. So if you do not own these albums and would like to revel in the good old days, then this box set is highly recommended ... Enjoy your drive back to the past on the Gypsy Road
