Rezension by Fenria Streetteam Berlin

Gegründet 1984 in Los Angeles. Me When I'm Dead veröffentlicht.

The following assessment applies to a band that needs no further introduction in the garage rock scene. After all, The Morlocks are one of the great pioneers and co-founders of this genre. Founded in Los Angeles in 1984. In the period up to 1997, the band released a total of four albums. In the summer of 1987, the band began to fall apart. Bassist Jeff Lucas left the band shortly before a show at the Fillmore in support of The Cult. The rest of the band lasted long enough to record a handful of tracks under Ron Rimsite's production before the entire group disbanded. The tracks recorded with Rimsite were eventually released posthumously on two 7-inch albums. Four years after the band broke up, a live LP from Croatia called Wake Me When I'm Dead was released. This was followed in 1997 by an official live CD release by guitarist Ted Friedman called Uglier Than You'll Ever Be!, the band's final release. In 1990, the alleged death of founder and lead singer Leighton Koizumi was announced. As it turned out, the same had not died, but had to serve several years in prison for drugs. After his release in 1999 he re-formed the band, keeping the name The Morlocks but not bringing any of his former colleagues on board. In the years 2006 to 2018 three more albums were released, but with the new line-up. Today, now in 2023, two of these last albums will be released again. This time, however, in the form of vinyls. So if you don't yet own the albums Play Chess and Easy Listening for the Underarchiver, or would like to own them in this format, you should hurry up. Both albums will only be released in a limited edition and will probably be sold out quickly. So if you are a real garage rock fan then these albums are highly recommended.
