So there it is. After a huge fuss about the new Metallica album, 72 Seasons, had been going on for months, I was really excited. Metallica couldn't lure me behind the stove in the last few years and with their releases, but at the latest when I first heard the pre-single, Lux Eterna, I was pricked. Hey, is there a bit more pep, speed and, above all, rhythm? Hm. That definitely sounds more like what Metallica had released in terms of music up to two specific releases. I don't even want to dig into old stories here and rehash the descent of one of the greats in the scene. Nevertheless, the band was long in search of their own greatness. Tormented by scandals, which nevertheless ensured that people always kept in touch. Well, as I said, these are stories from the old days, so I was excited for the new material that was announced so big. And lo and behold, great words were actually followed by great deeds. 72 Seasons sounds more like Metallica to me than its predecessor. Even though Metallica will always and forever just be Metallica. There are bands that can stay true to their style and always bring the same rhythm over and over again and still be loved and praised by fans and critics. Just like Metallica. And as already mentioned, the new material is more than worth a closer listen. So heavy bombast songs like, You must burn! invite you to tap your feet and light headbanging, while songs like 72 Seasons or especially Lux Eterna literally demand everything in terms of physical fitness, if you really get on your nerves to these songs … skin. In any case, my excursion into the new album was worth it, the Metallica are actually on the best way to their old roots, as songs like Sleepwalk My Life Away prove very well. Even if I'm hearing the critics again with this song, everything was already there. Sorry, dear critical audience, in music there are unfortunately no unlimited possibilities and so everything will somehow and somewhere be repeated in the future. But it always depends on what you make out of something that already exists. And in the case of Metallica, the effort for the band was positively worth it in my opinion. In any case, the next time I visit a hall of mirrors, I will certainly carry a completely new rhythm in me. And for that I thank Metallica. For me, 72 Seasons is finally a real milestone in the musical history and not only in that of this band....
