Na guck an, so schnell kann es passieren und schon hat man ein Alternative Rock Album produziert ohne es eigentlich zu wollen. Nun gewollt ist es schon, aber so eigentlich nicht geplant gewesen. Im Herzen von Sängerin Elena Justin wohnen unterschiedliche Schichten aus dunklen und turbulenten Emotionen. So nahm sie einige ihrer Songs, die eigentlich für ihre ehemalige New Yorker Band gedacht waren und tat sich mit dem Grammy-Gewinner und Produzenten Nick Rowe (Bloodsimple, Vampire Weekend) zusammen. Man nahm die Songs, überarbeitete selbige und gab ihnen eine sehr viel härtere Richtung. Was nun noch fehlte war die Umsetzung mit den passenden Musikern. Die fand man in, Marcos Curiel (Gitarren – P.O.D.), Ray Luzier (Schlagzeug – Korn) und Carla Harvey (Gesang – Butcher Babies). So entstand in ziemlich intimer Atmosphäre ein Album, welches sich von Anfang bis Ende hören lassen kann und nebenbei nicht hinter großen Produktionen zu verstecken braucht. Allein der aggressive und druckvolle Gesang von Sängerin Elena macht schon die Halbe Miete des Albums aus. Auch wenn Elena von sich selbst behauptet, so normalerweise gar nicht zu singen, ist es genau das was der aus der harten Musikrichtung stammende Nick Rowe hören und produzieren wollte. Und das ist auch verdammt gut so. Es entstanden auf diese Art, elf echte Kracher an Songs, die wir nur jedem freund dieser Musikrichtung wärmstens empfehlen können. Am besten hört man hierzu, den von Elena selbst als härtesten Song den sie bisher je gesungen hat, Cellophan. Das Teil geht verdammt gut nach vorn und hat dazu auch noch die nötige Härte. Aber wie gesagt auch der Rest des Albums lässt keine Wünsche offen und es werden über die gesamte Spielzeit keine Gefangenen gemacht. Hier hört man Spielfreude vom ersten bis zum letzten Ton. Man kann Elena nur viel Glück auf ihrem weiteren weg wünschen, auf das man noch viel von Motive Black zu hören bekommt.
Look, it can happen so quickly and you've already produced an alternative rock album without actually wanting to. Now it's wanted, but it wasn't really planned that way. Different layers of dark and tumultuous emotions dwell in the heart of singer Elena Justin. So she took some of her songs originally intended for her former New York band and teamed up with Grammy-winning producer Nick Rowe (Bloodsimple, Vampire Weekend). They took the songs, reworked them and gave them a much heavier direction. What was still missing was the implementation with the right musicians. They were found in, Marcos Curiel (guitars - P.O.D.), Ray Luzier (drums - Korn) and Carla Harvey (vocals - Butcher Babies). This is how an album was created in a fairly intimate atmosphere, which can be heard from beginning to end and doesn't need to hide behind big productions. The aggressive and powerful singing of singer Elena is already half the battle of the album. Even though Elena claims she doesn't usually sing like that, it's exactly what Nick Rowe, who hails from the heavy music genre, wanted to hear and produce. And that's a damn good thing too. In this way, eleven real hits of songs were created, which we can warmly recommend to every friend of this genre of music. The best way to hear this is by Elena herself as the hardest song she has ever sung, cellophane. The part goes forward damn well and also has the necessary hardness. But like I said, the rest of the album leaves nothing to be desired and no prisoners are taken over the entire season. Here you can hear the joy of playing from the first to the last note. One can only wish Elena the best of luck on her further path, which will be followed by a lot from Motive Black.
