Rezension by Fenria Streetteam Berlin

Kryptoxenoarchiologie.

I have to admit, to my own shame, that it actually took two attempts to find an approach to Coppelius' Abwärts. Abwärts is the name of the new work by the gentlemen who have been making music for a good 220 years. And the fact that I had a little trouble with the new material in the beginning was certainly not due to the opener with the name Rainmaker, which is really catchy, where it quickly sets the old bag of bones in rhythmic movements. Coppelius are back. Album number seven is in the starting blocks. The second song, too, was the gentlemen's first single and is called, Nur für dich. This number, although a bit poppy, sounds a bit different, and still has the typical gentleman's charm. The following number, Mein Grab, weighs heavily on the soul. But the unmistakable, admittedly somewhat off-beat humor of the gentlemen also saves this song. Heavy and damn powerful, Bloodline goes straight into the next round. A beautiful ballad follows, in the form of the song Si dolce. Eeee, another beautifully weird and oh so delightfully typical Coppelian number. What follows is a classic and damn theatrical number that only the gentlemen Coppelius could create. The title of the same song alone is a real tongue twister. Kryptoxenoarchiology. It goes on Schneller and then ends up in the wonderful cover version of Chop Suey, originally by System of the Dawn, of course. I Hate, another song performed in English, continues the journey from down. AlteFreunde am Kamin and Spiesser prove once again that Coppelius stay true to their style on this album. Punky, rocking and always a little bit mischievous and still keeping the form. Dark Ice, a purely instrumental, completes the journey of, well, let's say it, another Coppelius album. Yes, that's the best way to describe the new material, a little different and yet traditionally Coppelius. It will be interesting to see how the gentlemen will present the new material to the resisted audience on their concert tour, which has just begun.
