Rezension by Fenria Streetteam Berlin

In 2005, Joshua Strachan, Ryan Rayhill, Glenn Maryansky and James Minor formed the indie rock band with post punk and goth rock influences called Blacklist. This was followed by the EPs Blacklist (2006), Solidaire (2007) and finally in 2009 the debut with a name, Midnight of the Century. They lasted until 2011 and drew attention to themselves in the scene. Then suddenly the formation disappeared from the scene. Today, in 2022, they are suddenly back and releasing their second album Afterworld, which contains ten brand new songs. The sound is the same. The style hasn't changed much either. So the sound still fits into today's world. Thematically, the new material deals with the topic, how does love fit into a world fractured by politics and an environment? Good topic, which could not have been chosen better these days. Blacklist then implements the topic fantastically and with their new album creates an atmosphere between dream and reality that inevitably captivates the listener and, in addition to the dreamy nature of the songs, at the same time points out the emotional problems of our time with a raised finger. Here comes an album that not only wants to and can be heard and enjoyed, but which should also make you think. Apart from that, I can only say that the album actually distracted me from the hustle and bustle of our time for the entire season and what more do we need than to find a certain point of calm. Well then, listen to Blacklist in Afterworld.
