Rezension by Fenria Streetteam Berlin
Since their founding in 2006, Brymir have stood for their own extremely interesting mix of folk and melodic death metal sound. The mixture of these quite different styles makes this band something extraordinary. The hard-hitting riffs unerringly meet classic folk rock and combine both into an interesting thunderstorm of sounds. This is not only ensured by the excellent musicians behind their instruments, but also by their frontman Victor Gullichsen, who always gives his best and apparently screams/sings his heart out for every song. The chorale refrains of the songs round off the whole thing skilfully. This is also the case on the fourth album that has just been released. The five Finns prove once again that they don't have to hide behind the likes of Children of Bodom, Wintersun or Ensiferum. The opener and titular of the new album, Voices in the Sky, already makes it clear where the journey is supposed to go and shows the direction with its powerful energetic heaviness. Razor-sharp guitar riffs, driving drums, threatening basslines and the all-disrupting vocals drive the album forward with its eleven songs and leave no eye dry. Here comes one neck breaker after another. Headbanging is an absolute must here. You can clearly feel that the band has developed further and is slowly discovering and using its real strengths. Yes, one can say with complete certainty that Voices in the Sky is one, if not the strongest album that Brymir have produced so far. A must not only for die-hard fans... With Napalm Records they also hit the jackpot in the direction of the label and produced a fantastic album in the JKB Studios. Thanks to Live Session guitarist Antti Nieminen, songs like Far from Home get a shovel of class on top of that. As I said, a really worthwhile album which could hardly be more varied.
